Week 3 Wrap-Up: Settling In and Turning Pages!
We're three weeks into the school year, and it shows-routines are clicking into place, hallway hellos are getting friendlier, and classrooms are buzzing with learning. Thank you for all you're doing at home to support smooth mornings and homework routines; it makes a difference!
Now that we're settling into the rhythm of the year, it's a great time to reset attendance habits if mornings have been a little rocky. Being in school every day matters, but being on time matters just as much. The first few minutes of class are often when teachers set the plan for the day, review expectations, and get everyone oriented. Students who arrive late can miss key instructions and often spend the rest of the morning trying to catch up, which affects both learning and confidence. Thank you for helping your child walk through our doors on time each day-it's one of the simplest ways to set them up for success!
What a week it was for our Book Fair! Students browsed, wishlisted, and took home some new favorites during our Book Fair. A huge thank you to our volunteers who helped keep the tables organized and the lines moving, and to every family who came out to support literacy at Legacy Academy. Together we raised $10,000 so far for our library-incredible!
Book fairs are about more than just fun-they're one of the best tools we have for building lifelong readers. When kids get to choose their own books, they're far more motivated to actually read them. Having a wide range of titles, series, and formats on hand means every student can find something that hooks them, whether that's graphic novels, chapter books, or nonfiction about their favorite topic. The excitement of "shopping" for books, seeing classmates and friends excited about reading too, and bringing something home that's truly theirs all helps reading feel like a treat instead of a task. Studies consistently show that access to books kids actually want to read is one of the biggest predictors of reading growth, so this week's fair was an investment in your child's reading journey, not just a fun event.
If your student picked out a new book, ask them about it tonight. A few minutes of chatting about what they're reading goes a long way.
