Building Connections: The NHS Freshman Mentor Program

Starting high school can feel overwhelming. New classes, new hallways, and new expectations can make the transition a challenge for many freshmen. That’s why Legacy Academy’s National Honor Society (NHS) launched the Freshman Mentor Program — a student-led initiative designed to help freshmen start strong, build confidence, and feel connected from day one.

What It’s All About

The Freshman Mentor Program pairs incoming students with experienced NHS upperclassmen. These mentors act as guides, answering questions, offering encouragement, and sharing tips on everything from managing homework to getting involved in school activities. It’s a way to make the big leap into high school a little smaller and a lot less intimidating.

Leadership in Action

For NHS members, this program is more than just volunteer hours. It’s leadership in action. Mentors step up as role models, living out Legacy’s values by investing in younger students and showing them what it looks like to lead with character, kindness, and responsibility.

Why It Matters

High school isn’t just about academics — it’s about relationships. Having someone to lean on can make all the difference in a student’s first year. The Freshman Mentor Program helps build a culture of support where students encourage one another, creating a stronger, more connected school community.

A Win-Win Program

Freshmen gain confidence and community, while NHS mentors grow in leadership and service. It’s a win for everyone involved and a shining example of how Legacy Academy students are living generously and growing relationships.

The NHS Freshman Mentor Program is one of the many ways Legacy Academy creates opportunities for students to thrive — both inside and outside the classroom.
